Why is it so challenging to love and accept ourselves?

This is a common issue that people present to me during healing sessions. Most of us are continually striving, trying to prove we are ok causing us to not fully enjoy our lives. We can be our own worst critics which causes great suffering. We rarely feel we are good enough just as we are. This does not mean we stop growing and healing but it does mean accepting who we are in this moment with Kindness.

Consider for a moment what stops you from loving yourself? Just jot your thoughts down on paper without judging your answers. Notice if there is a theme to your criticisms as they most likely arise out of your core beliefs.

Mindfulness meditation works with our self-judgement issue in a certain way and the nondual healing sessions I offer deals powerfully with this question. So notice when self-criticism or self-judgment arises, take a moment to feel this emotion in your body, and fully stop to feel this. Now ask yourself is this really true or are you reacting to old messages from childhood?

Since self-judgement is a common core belief it tends to project itself outward and we begin to judge others. Imagine a brand new baby- an incredible miracle that is open and vulnerable with wonder and innocence in the world. Do you ask, is this one enough? Recall messages from your mother, father, teachers, friends, media - the vast amount of information that says you have to be friendlier, smarter, more organized, thinner, too thin, taller, less angry….the list continues. We begin to believe others opinions about who we are. This creates a person that has parts of themselves split off from the whole.

Know that you are not an image. You are a human being and the truth of being human is that we have flaws, we are not perfect. Leonard Cohen says it best:
"Ring the bells that still can ring
forget your perfect offering
there is a crack, a crack in everything
that's how the light gets in"

In other words, healing can take place when we acknowledge the cracks and allow the healing light to enter. When we know our personal false beliefs we can then begin to see through these dark clouds and see the truth of your magnificent self. You have always been enough. Through nondual healing and meditation we learn to step out of the dream state and recognize that there is no separate self.
